Archive for November, 2010

We have been pleasantly surprised by an early snowfall where we live.   We don’t get snow often and it is usually very little when we do get it.  I love how beautiful and magical snow is.  I love that we have enough to play in right now and it is wet enough to build snowmen!

All this lovely snow has put me in the Christmas Spirit and I am been happily working away at our youngest’s Christmas stocking. I am pretty happy with how it is turning out so far. I unintentionally overstuffed Santa’s jacket, but I am trying hard to ignore this fact. My husband tells me he doesn’t see anything wrong with it, so that is good to know. I am constantly amazed at how long it takes to get through some of the pieces. There are so many tiny details – but that is what makes it so beautiful!

Progress on the stocking is slow, but I hope to have it done soon.  We will be decorating for Christmas in a couple of weeks and I would love to have it ready to hang on the fireplace with the rest of the family’s stockings.

Here is a peek at how things are progressing ~

And some close-ups of the detail ~

A Baby Gift

A friend and family member recently gave birth to her first bundle of joy!  A baby boy!

Instantly, a million wonderful baby sewing projects popped into my head!  What should I make?  Being in a bit of a time crunch with the stocking I am working on, I needed something that I could whip up fairly quickly and still have it be a nice gift.  This is what I came up with…

A cozy soft blanket…

A taggie blanket (don’t mind the crooked ribbons.  It seems they slipped on me a bit!)…

And a cuddly little bunny.

I hope the new mom and baby both love them!

Stocking Progress

I have been slowly working on the stocking for my baby girl.   I really haven’t gotten too much of it done yet and really have to get my act in gear if I am to get it done in time for Christmas!

If you have never made one of these stockings, then I will tell you that they are a lot of work.  I will also tell you that they all worth all the time and dedication because they turn out so beautifully!

This is what I’ve done so far.  (I have left the top of the stocking out of the picture as this is where my daughter’s name is embroidered.)

And a close-up of the embroidery on the coat so far ~

I’m now appliqueing the coat piece onto the stocking and stuffing it a bit to give it a 3D effect.
