This weekend, I was kindly gifted a serger.
I’d like to introduce you to ‘The Beast’.
This girl has seen many years by the looks of her. She is the fantastic yellow of years gone by.
I lucked out and managed to find a manual for her online (for free!). It looks like I will have a lot of reading to do.
She appears to be in decent shape, although there are a few things missing. Just a couple of pieces for where the thread goes. I am thinking in the New Year, it may be wise to take her in to local sewing machine shop to have her looked over and tuned up.
Then it will be time to give her a try!
Why ‘The Beast’? Because although she is rather ugly, I suspect that there is good strength in this girl. And she scares me because she in so unfamiliar to me!
One day I might rename her. Once we are better acquainted.
Lucky you! In my experience, these older “beasts” often run better and last longer than the new. And you might be surprised at how reasonable it is to have it serviced, I was looking at a new machine when mine was having major problems, but the store owner talked me into bringing my old one in for servicing first – for less than 30 dollars my machine was as good as new! I would love to own a serger – can’t wait to hear what you think of serger sewing!
I have an old Singer machine from the early 1900s in my shop. I call it “The Locomotive” because it is so loud, but it runs just as good as any other machine in the shop.
